  Overall we had an okay experience with Stonefield building our home in Palatine. There are a couple things we would have done differently or paid more attention to had we been aware during the process.
  
  Highlights:
  1. Flexibility in choices and customizations during build. Stonefield/Gary was also helpful in making decisions.
  2. House builds are built really tight and so are energy efficient. (We did have some insulation added in our attic in addition to what was originally quoted during our build)
  3. Tiler was very good and we were really impressed with their quality of work. Concrete board was also used as underlay for the tile which was appreciated.
  
  Improvements/Concerns we have had since build:
  1. After 4 years we have frequent plumbing noises that I have not experienced in my prior homes. The main issue we currently face is we have pipes in our 2nd floor that give off a singular bang/knock after using the faucet/toilets in our 2nd floor bathrooms or even our kitchen throughout the day. Even at night when not in use we hear the odd bang which is quite strange. I contacted Stonefield about the issue but as we are out of the 1 year warranty our issue has not been resolved. I would advise that you ask for an extended guarantee on the plumbing as it is pretty frustrating to hear the pipes bang within your walls many times each day. In trying to problem solve it ourselves we have found several very loose pipes, some that were secured by solder to another copper pipe that has now broken. It appears to us the pipes were not secured appropriately and the wholes for the pipes between floors were not big enough, or the pipe was not secured appropriately going through them. We have kept up with flushing our water heater, and have tried draining our system 4-6 times and that did not solve the issue either. It appears our only solution is to open up the walls/ceiling and secure these pipes.
  UPDATE 9/25/17: I had this issue fixed (not by Stonefield), and the issue was due to the pipes being soldered to copper bracing which broke over time due to movement in the pipes. This then caused the pipe to bang against wood cross bracing as they installed the pipe against cross bracing with out bracing it or covering it with foam insulation. We had to open up our 2nd floor flooring to have this addressed and it is disappointing stonefield did not fix it given it being an issue with the construction of the home.
  
  Also, our 2nd bath upstairs has been very loud when on and we really should have had it looked at within the 1 year warranty period and only since found it really is not normal for this to be as loud as it is. As we are outside the 1 year warranty this is something we will need to fix, but my advice would be that you check all your faucets during inspection and listen to them on from the other floors in your house.
  
  2. Before signing off on your punch list I would ask for a static pressure test on your furnace. We were later informed that our furnace was installed incorrectly as it was running at a static pressure of 1.1 which is above the furnace manufacturer specifications. We found this out during a furnace inspection a few years later and had to pay a significant amount to have the duct work corrected to the furnace to get the static pressure within the manufacturer specifications.
